NFPA 25 requires specific monthly and annual testing of fire pumps. It is the owner of the building to ensure fire protection system is up to code and working properly.
Ontario Fire Protection will conduct the inspection, testing, and maintenance requirements based on the fire protection systems installed at your facility. We will discuss the options with you for helping to ensure that your systems are adequately maintained to fire code and manufacturing requirements.
Inspection, testing, and maintenance requirements are outlined in NFPA 25, Standard for the Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems. Below is an overview of the inspection and testing activities that should be completed on your pump.
Weekly
· Pump house, heating, ventilating louvers
· Fire pump system
· Pump Operation (Diesel only)—no flow start and run test for 30 minutes
Monthly
· Pump Operation (Electric only)—no flow start and run test for 10 minutes
Annual
· Full flow test both diesel and electric pumps
· Fire pump alarm signals
Maintenance
· On an annual basis service hydraulic systems, mechanical transmission and motor
· All other maintenance on the pump and associated components varies and should be completed in accordance with the manufacturers’ recommendations.
Performance Testing
Ontario Fire Protection can conduct an annual performance test on your fire pump and provide you all the required documents to show the required curve and performance documentation.
The performance at each flow and pressure point also must not be less than 95 percent of the pump's nameplate data or the pump's original unadjusted field test curve. The graph of a favorable fire pump flow test should appear as a gradually sloping curve that falls to the right.
