The Fire Code and NFPA 25 requires Backflow preventers to be inspected annually. There are special provisions and licenses you require to test backflow preventers. At Ontario Fire Protection we are OWWA Certified to install, inspect, test and maintain your back-flow prevention device.
Without inspections, backflow testing and regular maintenance, backflow assemblies can fail. This can occur if there is any sediment or any kind of buildup inside the backflow assemblies. Even a very small piece of debris or a small pebble can damage the backflow assembly. This can lead to water in the sprinkler system leaking back into the city water supply as a contaminate to the drinking water. Also, an impaired assembly or backflow valve can prevent a fire safety system from functioning properly.
Did you know that some municipalities require to have approved certified contractors to conduct all backflow testing, maintenance, and installation. Ontario Fire Protection is approved with multiple municipalities. Contact us if you require any testing, maintenance, or installation needs.
